How to grow, maintain and care for a Lonicera, Honeysuckle bonsai tree from collected material aka Yamadori.
I acquired this collected material spring of 2014. It was in a plastic pot which broke in part 2 progression video. It was up against a wall and all the growth was on one side. The original collected material was too tall in video part 1, I reduced the height and did some tidy up work with a view to getting new growth all round.
In this progression video part 3, the tree has been allowed to grow for over year and is now pruned, branches wired and styled. From now onwards it will be regularly pruned to develop the pads.
These trees have very small leaves and are therefore ideal for bonsai. They are also very easy to care for and for this reason make an excellent choice as a beginners tree for making a bonai.
Care is very easy, nothing special. Just water and feed in the growing season with what every fertilisers you can lay your hands on. Pruning is also simple, prune new growth leaving two to thee sets of leaves. This will result in development of very short branches and excellent ramification.
